The short version: Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and popularity. You can't move your shop closer to every customer in Dallas. You can work on the other two, and that's the job.
How Google picks the Dallas map results
Google's own words (Google, Tips to improve your local ranking): "Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity."
Relevance "is how well a Business Profile matches what someone is searching for." That's your categories, your services and a page for each one.
Distance "refers to how far each business is from the customer who's searching." You can't change it, so don't waste money pretending you can.
Prominence is what the same page calls the third factor. It "means how well-known a business is." Google says it's "based on info like how many websites link to your business and how many reviews you have."
Dallas is several map markets, not one
My map pack article puts it plainly. "Dallas County alone contains Dallas, Irving, Garland, Mesquite, Richardson, and Grand Prairie, each with its own Google Maps results." So a Dallas plan starts by picking which of those markets you actually serve.
What that means for your business
- A free SEO audit first, to see where your relevance and prominence fall short.
- A Google Business Profile that says exactly what you do and where.
- A page for each service, with real jobs behind it.
- Reviews asked for from every customer, never bought and never filtered.
- Two articles a week, and a monthly SEO audit to show what changed.
The full process is on how I work.
One plan, one price
For home-service contractors, SEO is $900 a month. The first 3 months are the minimum. After that it's month to month, with 30 days' notice to cancel. It starts with a free SEO audit before you sign. It includes technical fixes and Google Business Profile work, a content plan with 2 articles a week, and a monthly SEO audit. Other businesses get a quote after the free audit.
What I won't do
- Promise rankings, or misreport them.
- Buy links or reviews, or ask only happy customers for reviews.
- Fake reviews, credentials or results to look better to AI tools.
